Obama to Visit Watertown

On April 13, the White House released a statement saying that President Obama would be making a visit to the only state left on his list, South Dakota. He plans to address graduating students at Lake Area Technical Institute. At first glance, Watertown seems like a weird place for the POTUS to visit. I've been to Watertown. It's lame. Who wants to visit a lake instead of the most magnificent rock sculpture in the world? But as the great Michael Hoffer once said, "Senior politicians don't make appearances that aren't politically motivated". As it turns out, Lake Area Technical Institute is one of the top community colleges in the nation. And in light of Obama's recent desires to make community college free, this seems like a prime opportunity for the president. I have a feeling this visit to SD wasn't a spur of the moment decision because it was the only state Obama hasn't visited. I think this visit was planned out a long time ago and was strategically placed in time with the president's political agenda. It's all a conspiracy maaaan.

  1. I bet he doesn't stay the night in Watertown! He'll be in and out as soon as possible. I mean there isn't a lot to do over in the land of nothing. It was definitely strategically planned, and I honestly had no idea why the President would go to whatever tech school he's speaking at until today.

  2. To be honest, I could care less if the President's motives are political. I'm just glad that he decided to make it to all 50 states. All Presidents who serve two terms should do this in order to stay more connected with the population. This beats what he did in Utah as he just spoke on an air force base and left.

  3. The most magnificent rock sculpture in the world?...You think he should see Petra? Just kidding. But anyway, I've heard people say actions matter more than intentions. It doesn't matter if you intend to go to school if you don't wake up and go. If people donate to charity, who cares why? So of course it's politically motivated. Every celebrity, politician, and musician thinks carefully about when and where they make appearances. Presidents never come here, so let's just be glad that the world's actually noticing us.
